Texas Time.

I left a chunk of my heart in Lubbock.

I recently went to Texas. Lubbock, Texas specifically. If you’ve never been to Lubbock, let me tell you all about it. There is a college – Texas Tech. There is a Walmart. There is a fantastic pizza place. There are many trucks. There is a lot of open land. There’s a farm called Crazy Hoe Farms. This is not a joke.

We rented a home 25 minutes outside of “downtown” where fields roll on for miles and streets are all named County Road only being identified by a different number. The thunder sounds distant but the lightning streaks across the horizon and the dust hangs thick in the air like humidity.

After reading quietly by the pool for about 5 minutes I decided this place was for me. Not forever – not even for more than maybe a few weeks – but places like this where life is simple and the people are simple and everyone keeps to themselves and the quiet feels like endless opportunity… this is my kind of place to visit.

A re-charge kind of spot that the soul needs more often than we know. Do you all feel the draw too? If you live in a city like New York or Chicago or Los Angeles, maybe you do. But especially since my diagnosis, my appreciation for the Lubbock’s of the world has grown exponentially.

These places allow a person to just be. Tiny villages and homesteads where time moves a bit slower…towns that many think of as destinations for those running away from something are to others a chance to find their way.

My MS journey has me searching and discovering my purpose and the people and places in this life that help me feel more whole.

Lubbock, I hope we get to know one another better someday.

  1. I wish you luck in Texas. The south brings good and bad things to a person’s life. Things do move slower which is great, but it is HOT!!! I grew up in Vermont and moved to NC at age 19 right before I was diagnosed with MS. I blamed NC for years, but I guess it would have happened no matter where I lived. Take things easy and take people for the easy and rather slow attitudes. I hope things turn out good for you!

    1. Thanks Alyssa! I am back from Texas already (way too short) but it was such a nice quiet getaway. By the way, I live in Los Angeles but I am from NC and visit often! Hope you are having a good week with very little discomfort/pain… xoxo
